Since Cameron Highlands is famous for its tea plantations, and the cool England-like weather, afternoon tea in a relaxing English garden definitely sounds wonderful.
After reading some good reviews about this hotel, we took a short walk from our hotel at Cameron Highlands Resort to The Smokehouse Hotel, which is just 500 metres/ 6 minutes walk away.
This charming English Tudor style Hotel was built in 1939. It was surrounded by a blooming garden with many happy birds flying around. We went to Rose Valley on one of the sight-seeing day and it was just sad and disappointing, we could have just came to Smokehouse for a afternoon tea and garden stroll instead.
It is a hotel and restaurant today, we didn’t choose to stay here because we would prefer to stay in somewhere more modern with newer decor. It will be great for travellers who would like to experience staying in an old colonial style house.
We choose to sit outdoor to enjoy the nice cool weather and the smell of the garden.
We ordered a Devonshire Cream Tea set for RM30 (S$10) which comes with 2 scones and a pot of tea. And a Smokehouse Cream Tea RM45 that comes with slice of fruit cake, smoked salmon sandwich and a scone. Portion is not as big as what we had at Jim Thompson Tea Room at Cameron Highlands Resort and the price is cheaper as well. (Jim Thompson Tea Room charges RM60/ person)
Tea was served with proper tea leaves in a tea pot instead of just tea bags. Scones and sandwiches tasted pretty good. Sitting outdoor in the garden was really pleasant. The garden is very lively with many small birds flying and chipping around. We had a lovely time there.
The lovely garden of Smokehouse Hotel
A good place for a quiet, peaceful afternoon tea in the garden if you like traditional style of afternoon tea. However if the more luxury with bigger tiers of afternoon tea is your thing, then Jim Thompson Tea Room at Cameron Highlands Resort might be better for you.
